Transmission and Distribution: Gujarat Chief Minister    Narendra Modi launches India’s first 100% Localised 765 kV Transformer manufactured by AREVA


Shri Narendra Modi, Honorable Chief Minister of Gujarat, today unveiled India’s first 765 kV Transformer manufactured by AREVA T&D, at its Vadodara factory for Lanco Infratech Ltd. The unveiling ceremony took place in the presence of Mr. S K Chaturvedi, Chairman and Managing Director – Power Grid Corporation, Mr. S C Manocha, Chief Executive Officer - Lanco Infratech Ltd and a host of AREVA T&D’s customers from leading public and private utilities across India. With this, AREVA T&D is the first manufacturer to produce a 100% localized 765 kV Generator Power Transformer in India.

The 765 kV Transformer is part of the first-ever private sector 765 kV Ultra High Voltage (UHV) order AREVA T&D India was awarded by Lanco Infratech Ltd., for the switchyard associated with the 1200 MW (2 Units of 600 MW) Anpara-C Thermal Power Plant coming up in Uttar Pradesh. The order comprises 19 Power Transformers and Reactors, including 7 Generator Transformers, which are being manufactured at the Vadodara plant and are scheduled for delivery in 2010.

On the occasion of the launch, Karim Vissandjee, CEO of AREVA T&D Global said, “AREVA T&D has been a pioneer in 765 kV substations since it built India’s first 765 kV substation at NTPC’s Sipat plant. Anticipating the growth of the Extra High Voltage (765 kV EHV) Transmission network in India, AREVA T&D Management commissioned a world class factory at Vadodara in 2009, to manufacture 765 kV Transformers. We are very proud that in such a short time, the Vadodara plant has become a jewel amongst our 12 dedicated Power Transformer factories, competence and innovation centers worldwide, covering a full range of products for transmission, power generation, industrial and railway markets”


Commenting on the launch, Rathin Basu, Country President & Managing Director of AREVA T&D India said, “The launch of AREVA T&D’s first 765 kV Extra High Voltage Power Transformer, made in India, is a major landmark in the Indian Power industry. This takes the Indian manufacturing and technological capability to a new high, which was presently available only in select countries. We are confident that the localization program we have initiated at our new plants, will help us to build Indian Extra High Voltage (765 KV) and the forthcoming Ultra High Voltage (1200 KV )grid with T&D equipments built and serviced locally”.
